Numero Teno?

During this semester I have learned so much, mostly about my papersa. I have learned how a proper paper is constructed. It takes more thought and it takes more time than I have been giving any of papers in the class. I think one of the funniest things I learned is taking our longer sentences and cutting them shorter. I learned what types of things a more professional paper should look like and the things it should contain. In high school and middle school I was graded more so on content, what I wrote not really how I wrote. So I believe that through my past teachers not criticing my papers I never knew the right way to write a paper. I believe that now I know what to include in my papers and what to look for I can continue to improve on my papers. I hope that in the future I can get into more classes like this one that will help me and allow me to learn even more.

Blog 8

To help create some ideas as to what I would like to include in my paper here are some questions I'm going to try and answer.

Why do people join the Dark knight fan sites?

What things do the Dark knight fan site accomplish?

How does the Dark knight fan site create a community?

Some research terms would be.

Dark knight fan sites, internet fan sites, Internet communities.

Prospectus

The title to my paper is Technology, Community, and Movies. My thesis is Technology allows communities to be made through movies, and film. My research plan includes first jotting all the things about fan sites, certain films, and everything I already know about them. I plan on making a trip to the library and researching when communities first develop because of movies. I also plan on researching the first types of communities through film in history. I plan on using internet sources as well as encyclopedias, and other books; also I would like to include quotes, and or discussion from real people who join these communities to see the why and for better understanding.
The reason for using these sources would be to further explain how a community evolves from a particular movie. What type of community forms from film? My argument would be that film creates communities through technology with the use of computers and fan websites. I plan on developing my research argument by looking at a particular movie and looking at the fan websites associated with them.

Confesions of a Txt-aholic

Technology and phones have come along way. Technology has made it so much easier to communicate to friends and family through the use of our cell phones. I am a txt-aholic. I text constantly, I have unlimited texts and use them to my advantage. I barely even talk on my phone at all. My text messages started over almost two weeks ago and so far I’ve used over 2000 texts. This technology has allowed me to do things in communication that I normally wouldn’t be able to do with actually talking to someone on the phone. Texting allows me to communicate and talk to multiple people at one time. Texting to me is more convient, because I have limited service. It takes more service to make a call then to send a text so now I don’t have to worry about drop calls, because all my texts will go through. I like to text because it allows me to express my self better because I don’t have to have that direct conversation. It’s easier for me to be funnier, cleverer, because I can actually think about what I’m going say before I send that next text. I’m not sure how my obsession of wanting to text all the time affects my relationship between my friends and me on their end. They never told me rather they would prefer actually talk to me or not. To me I think it makes our relationships stronger, because we’re not having that physical conversation because they’re most likely to express themselves more with me.
Texting does have its disadvantages. There have been times when arguments have been created because of the lack of emotion. Many people have misread a text sent from me and interpreted it in their own way, when actually that’s not the tone I intended it to be. Texting also prolong a conversation as well. If you call a person on the phone to ask there option on something what would normally be a 5 min conversation could take much longer than it needs to be. With texts you have to wait on a response and sometimes that may take a long time, so you have to wait on them before you can respond back. Sometimes it interferes with relationships among your friends because it becomes easier to mix text and text the wrong person.
Texting is a great advancement in technology. I love to text although it has its advantages and disadvantages. As a txt-aholic I understand how the use of technology can affect how we communicate with one another. Texting is the new form of communication and it’s the one I prefer.

Cover Letter

Over the coarse of this semester I have learned so much. I've written two papers one was a analyzing paper and the other was a response. While writing these papers I was taught many elements that would help me write my papers. The single thing I learned in this class would have to be my weak points. While in high school I really thought that my papers were really good. Perhaps they were on the high school level but I would find out where I would need improvements for my papers to be on the college level. I learned that I used commas in the wrong ways in my papers. By reading the handbook that I was told to buy, I learned about where to use commas and where they weren't neccasary. The one thing that I want to continue learning would be the editing process. I learned many techniques that helps us in the process of writing our papers that I find very helpful. These techniques have so far aloud me to take what I considered an ok paper and make it a great paper. These techniques allow me to expand and grow from that high school level to a college level.

Grading sample Papers

On the Foreign Athletics Paper this person would recieve a B about an 84. I picked this grade because for Clarity and Purpose there is no set thesies it is once you read the paragraphs you understand what the author is talking about. Quality of Thought was ok I felt like there were times where he would repeat some of the thoughts over and over thought the whole paper. Organization of Content was pretty good. He used his sources well, every quote had proper reference and documentation. The author language and stlye was ok not much strong vocabulary and diction. As for Grammar and Mechanics and was pretty good.

On the Online College vs. Online High School this person would recieve a D about a 65. I picked this grade because there was no real thesis I could pinpoint. Quality of Thought some of his points was kind of unclear. In Organization this author was all over the place. They used some but not much. Language and style was not good there were mistakes throughout the whole paper.

On the Predisposed to Divorce this person would recieve a B+ almost a 93. I gave them this grade because the thesis was apparant. There Quality of Thought was good they supported each though with a clear support. Organization was done well they made a great developing argument. When the author quote a sorce the proper documentaion was used. Language and style was used well it supported the purpose well. This paper had slight grammartical mistakes.

On the NAACP Case Against Gun Manufactures this person would get a B about an 85. I would give them this because the Clarity of purpose isn't really apparant I think th e intro could have been better. As for Quality of Thought was pretty good the claims was all supported with reason. Organization was good a well on point was followed by another in a way that was easy to understand and had a good flow. Use of sources was used well when the author quoted a soucre they used the proper doumentaion. Language and style wasn't complex but it allowed me to follow along and it supported the purpose. Grammar and Stlye was good not any major grammar errors none that would take away from the reading in any way.

Lets Analyze

Hagelin writes about how video games can lead to violence among children. Hagelin who notes that she is a mother writes from the point of view of a mother. In fact that is one of her jobs, to write for WorldNetDaily.com (the same website that was selling "NOBama" magnetic bumper stickers), and Townhall.com called "Heat Beat". She writes about social issues through the eyes of a mother. So does that automatically mean that her views and ideas are at all creadiable? They say that yes indeed a mother knows best, but I mean we have to draw the line on somethings. Hagelin uses a statement from Dr. Elizabeth Carll of the America Psychological Association to help justify some of her points. Hagelin uses the advice of Dr. Carll but how credible is Dr. Carll? Yet still she is only one opinion so can we just automatically take her word on anything she says about this matter as well. Carll says that games enhance the
"learning experince". Hagelin uses this statement to her advantage by saying that this "learning expeerince" the children are doing is teaching them to become corruptive and commit acts of violence. Dr Carll in this online website http://www.apa.org/releases/videoviolence05.html is quoted for saying that violent games may create "aggressive behavior" in children. Which is not the same at all as violent as Hagelin is trying to say. Hagelin clearly twistes up these words in order for her points to have some solid ground to stand up on. If she will twist the words of Dr. Carll is it possible that she twisted up these events in order to make video games appear more harmful then they really are?

Video Games

The article I picked to analize was Rebecca Hagelin's "Video Game Violence and Our Sons". The reason I picked this one was because she stated many key points in her article supported by reasons to support her article. She wrote her article to express how the videos games is resulting violent behavior in today's youth. A lot of violence among our youth in her opinion is cause by a lot of today's games like Grand Theft Auto. In this game your suppose to steal cars, beat up police officers, and wreck havoc on the city. That after we play these games hours after hour that these types of games are like murder simulators. Although I may not agree with a lot of her views on this issue her article is quite informative. Rebecca Hagelin also gave her opinion as a mother which I believe to her audience maybe very effective in her reasoning and beliefs of video games.

Class Promt #1

Being part of the "in crowd" used to be of upmost importance to me. I belive that everyone all ways wanted to be considered the "popular kid" in school. I also always wanted to be one of those students. I believe that at those times its when we're in the process finding our selves. Normally, thats harder to do when your in grade school, when your constanly reminded of things you didn't have and thus possibly outcasted your self. I think everyone wants in some way or another strive to be at least socially accepted. Just being able to be part of the mix not a stand alone ingredient works fine with most. Once we venture to college theres still that want to be social accepted but I believe that alot of us by this time know who we are and where we fit in. So being a part of the "in crowd" isn't much of a priority anymore.

FTF(Face the Facebook)

The article I chose to write about is Facing the Facebook. The reason I chose to respond to this article is because I disagreed with the points that were made by the author. The author thinks of Facebook as what could be a distraction in the classroom which in a way I can understand. However, regardless if a student is on Facebook or not in a classroom does not mean that they will pay attention in the first place. There are other ways in which students can be distracted if they don't want to pay attention. People have always found ways to distract themselves, whether it's during a boring lecture of teacher or the observations of assemblies. If students put a magazine between the pages of a book, draw, pass notes or even sleep, they are all ways in which we pass the time. By preventing or banning Facebook or any use of technology, it doesn't stop our natural tendency to want to entertain ourselves. You can never make anyone pay attention to anything and thus we will always find other ways in which to entertain ourselves, maybe it's just that technology of today's world is just making that job a little easier. The author writes about the misuse of this technology on campus and in the classroom. I completely understand his view points on any use of technology in the classroom, it's the use of it on campus I do not understand. I feel as if on a college campus we are told that we are adults and we will be treated as such. I feel that the laws they are trying to place surrounding the issues seems to take us back to being high school students once again. College is suppose to be designed where it gives us glimpses of what the real world is supposed to be like, and allows us more freedom to venture into that world. By placing rules saying what an "adult" can or cannot post on his/her page and using any content on his/her page against them is unethical. Also by banning Facebook or any other social network on a college campus is like putting us in the mind set of a high school student, which is what they say they are trying to change in the first place. They allow us to live and be on our own but yet they ban social networks on the Internet, now does that make sense?
